Black Balsam Knob
Another favorite epic location is Black Balsam Knob. This one is another ten minute hike, slightly more difficult than Craggy (but only slightly). The hike first takes you through a pine forest before opening up to those aforementioned epic views of the mountains.
Things to know:
1 hour drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway from downtown Asheville. Bring or wear comfy shoes.
Can be windy up there so you may want to use some hairspray to keep flyaways at bay.
This is on the same road as the location below - Sam Knob. Some people choose to add on more time in order to do both locations.
The Blue Ridge Parkway closes when icy conditions are present on the roadway making this location inaccessible on the coldest days. Luckily we can always check this map to make sure.
